{"id":742,"date":"2018-09-07T04:54:53","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T08:54:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vasculitis.ca\/?p=742"},"modified":"2018-09-27T16:57:36","modified_gmt":"2018-09-27T20:57:36","slug":"vfc-announces-the-2018-fall-speaker-and-lecture-program-the-many-faces-of-vasculitis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vasculitis.ca\/?p=742","title":{"rendered":"VFC Announces the 2018 Fall Speaker and Lecture Program The Many Faces of Vasculitis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">VFC 2018 Fall Lectures \u2013 Saturday, October 27, 2018<br \/>\nSt. Joseph\u2019s Health Care<br \/>\n268 Grosvenor Street<br \/>\nLondon, Ontario<br \/>\nShuttleworth Auditorium at St. Joseph\u2019s Health Care<\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Come to the Annual VFC Fall Lectures in London, Ontario<\/h4>\n<p>VFC is pleased to advise the theme for this falls lectures will be\u00a0<strong>The Many Faces of Vasculitis<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0This fall we are excited to share with you a very diverse program covering the many different presentations, or \u201cfaces\u201d of vasculitis. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nVFC has long recognized that patient education is a critical part of our mission, and with your participation we shall continue to help improve\u00a0your <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">care<\/span>, we will find new ways to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">control<\/span>\u00a0vasculitis and of course, together we will find the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cause<\/span>,\u00a0and the ultimately the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cure<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\nWe hope you\u2019ll\u00a0<strong>join us this fall<\/strong> for the next chapter on understanding vasculitis for patients. We meet Saturday, October, 27, 2018 in London where\u00a0<strong>you\u2019ll hear six determined and dedicated doctors share their ideas\u00a0about The Many Faces of Vasculitis<\/strong>. We\u2019ve come a long way over VFC\u2019s 20+ year history and things continue to get better, as you will hear from this year\u2019s speakers. \u00a0And, <strong>you\u2019ll have lots of time to meet and greet other patients, and get answers to questions that are important to you<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>This falls lectures have been organized with the assistance of Dr. Lillian Barra (Rheumatology\/CanVasc)<\/strong>, she will present two sessions: one, will be an overview of vasculitis in Canada and globally, and the second, will focus on her <strong>MRI &amp; PET imaging research<\/strong> on Takayasu\u2019s <strong>(TAK)<\/strong>, which may change the thinking on the diagnosis and treatment of TAK. <strong>Dr. Jennifer Mandzia (Neurology)<\/strong>, will speak on central nervous system, <strong>(CNS)<\/strong> vasculitis, which impacts many patients from numbness and pain, all the way to brain involvement and strokes. <strong>Dr. Katherine Siminovitch\u00a0(Vasculitis Genetics<\/strong>), will update us on her genetics research which primarily involves <strong>GPA and MPA<\/strong> over a course of 17 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Lulu Bursztyn (Ophthalmology)<\/strong>, will \u201cfocus\u201d on ocular anatomy, and ocular involvement in Giant Cell Arteritis <strong>(GCA)<\/strong>. <strong>Dr. Erkan Demirkaya (Rheumatology<\/strong>), will review, and share, his experience with Behcet\u2019s <strong>(BD)<\/strong>, and will offer his insight on how the \u201cSilk Road\u201d leads all the way to London, and around the world! <strong>Dr. Leigh Sowerby (ENT)<\/strong>, will review ENT involvement in vasculitis which affects high numbers of <strong>GPA and EGPA<\/strong> patients. <strong>We hope you will join us for this falls lectures!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Registration begins at 9:00AM. \u00a0The lecture program gets underway at 9:50AM.<\/p>\n<p>As in past years, some DNA study samples may be collected, stay tuned for more information on the various lab collections which may apply to you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lecture Registration is FREE for VF Canada members, (whose memberships are current!)<\/strong>, non-members can attend by becoming a member with a $20 Canadian membership, or a dual Canada\/U.S. membership for $60.
